        AMTC Announced as New GRA Allied Partner

        Atlanta, GA - September 11, 2017 - The Georgia Restaurant Association has announced Applied Media Technologies Corporation as a new allied partner for restaurant music and marketing. AMTC has agreed to provide substantial discounts to GRA members on background music, digital signage and menu boards and sound systems.

        “Especially in light of the challenging economic environment many of our members face, we are seeking opportunities to partner with vendors who can help reduce operating costs. With the GRA discounts, AMTC offers pricing significantly below prevailing rates. We were particularly impressed with their low-cost digital signage and digital menu board solution, which is an area many of our members had been seeking but had found financially out of reach” said Ryan Costigan, GRA Director of Membership.

        AMTC Account Executive Dawn Francett said “We take particular pride in helping independent operators achieve marketing sophistication and a customer experience that’s on par with the biggest chains, but at a price they can afford.”

        AMTC will be in Booth 309 at the Atlanta Food Service Expo September 18-19 at the Cobb Galleria Center.

          How music helps us to connect with our favorite brands

          Do we need to talk about the importance of music in our life? You are probably listening to music while reading this. Music helps brands to create a unique connection with its customers, and here’s why.

          Music is universal
          While there are many languages in this world, music is the only one that can be understood by everyone. It conveys feelings and emotions that everyone can interpret. Music can transcend all kinds of barriers. It taps into people’s feelings and allows for the creation of a real and honest bond between the brand and the customers.

          Emotional connectedness

          Humans are creatures of sensation. Hearing is one of our five basic senses, which we are reliant on even before we start talking. We experience the world through sensations, and only describe it using words. That is why music connects us with the brand in an emotional way. It highlights the relationship we have and it helps us create a personal relationship. Because of this relationship, we have favorite places and products; those are our friends that we love to spend time with.

          Engagement
          Consumerism came along with the cluttered advertising space. Nobody wants to be bothered by unwanted advertisements, so we developed a habit of avoiding them. However, avoiding also means missing things we actually do want to see. That is why brands are developing their signature sounds. Recognizing the signature sound of our favorite brands encourages engagement. It makes us feel, recreates the emotions we are experiencing when actually using the service or the product, only by listening to those few notes which are representing it.

          Music is all about the experience
          Everything we consume is not because of the need it satisfies, because, let’s face it, that need can be satisfied by many other brands; but because of the experience it offers. Experiences are aesthetic expressions that cause deep emotions. Music strengthens the experience conveyed by the brand, it allows us to feel sensations and recall memories, instead of just plain using products and services. Music is major factor in creating and setting up the full experience.

          Exclusivity
          The relationships we form with brands feel unique and individual, even when we are aware that the brand mass-produces and is selling its services to a wide audience. Music is helping the brands create that individualistic experience that feels authentic to the brand. Brands even create custom-made playlists that are tailored to represent its core values and connect with the audience on a deep emotional level. Applied Media Technologies Corporation has been helping customers build their brands through digital technologies for over 25 years. Our teams are creating custom-made playlists tailored for specific brands. We are experts in conveying the character of the brand through music and therefore enable the personal relationship to happen. Contact us to find out more.

          Eos Artist of the Month: Ed Sheeran

          Without a doubt, 2017 was Ed Sheeran’s year. He was the most streamed artist globally, and dominated the charts with his record-breaking album Divide. In a huge surprise to his fans, Sheeran was not nominated in the major Grammy categories this year. Divide was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album, and his single Shape Of You for Best Pop Solo Performance. Needless to say, he took home both of the awards. However, he was excluded from the Album of the Year and Song of the Year categories. Even Ellen DeGeneres expressed her disappointment that Shape of You was not up for Song of the Year.

          Our Eos Artist of the Month, in his genuine and authentic way, confessed that the biggest win for him is the people who are actually affected by and enjoying his music. And how can we not, when it is so pure and emotional. I’ve been smitten by his song Perfect, even before finding out that it is about his highschool sweetheart, with whom he has been together for three years so far, and plans to spend his lifetime with her. So, congratulations are in order ☺.

          Even though Divide was snubbed by the Grammys, it is bringing him nominations throughout the globe. He has several 2018 Brit Awards nominations, including those for British Male Solo Artist and Divide for British Album of the Year, while Shape of You for best British Single and best British Video. Besides being nominated, Ed Sheeran will also perform his song Supermarket Flowers during the ceremony. He also has nominations in five categories for the 2018 iHeartRadio Music Awards, where he is also set to perform.

          In the meantime, his songs continue to rule the charts, as well as his collaboration with Eminem called River, and the duet with Beyonce. The popularity of his songs show no signs of waning.

          Ed Sheeran is also planning to dedicate 2018 to his fans. He is going on a massive tour throughout the world. He’s starting in March in Australia, then Asia, Europe and he will have his grand finale in North America.

          It seems to me that not only 2017, but also 2018 will be Ed Sheeran’s year. And since we at Eos Music Corporation are huge fans of his, we’ve named him this month’s Eos Artist of the Month.

          Now and Then – The Week’s Billboard Number One Single

          The number one single on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the week of February 17 was God’s Plan by Drake. Following Drake's 2017 playlist More Life, the Toronto MC surprised his fans on January 19, 2018 by dropping two songs from his Scary Hours EP. With its bouncy flow, this orchestral melodic track is the more commercial of the two releases.

          10 years ago, in 2008, the spot was held by Low, from Flo Rida featuring T-Pain. The first U.S. number-one single for FloRida, Low was the longest-running number-one of 2008, topping the chart for 10 consecutive weeks.

          20 years ago, 1998’s top single this week was Usher’s Nice & Slow. His first number-one single on the BillboardHot 100 chart, the beat was created first, and the lyrics were fitted to it. The composition and recording of Nice & Slow took just four hours, according to co-writer Jermaine Dupri.

          30 years ago, 1988 saw Got My Mind Set on You from George Harrison in the top spot. Of Harrison's three number-one singles in the US, it was both the only song not written or composed by Harrison himself and the only one without religious overtones. It also was not only the last US No. 1 hit by Harrison, but also from any of the ex-Beatles (as of 2017) in the US.

          Looking back 40 years to 1978, the Bee Gee’s grabbed number one with Stayin’ Alive. The song plays over the opening credits of the 1977 movie Saturday Night Fever while John Travolta struts through the streets of New York City. The movie has come to represent the Disco era, and has made this the song most associated with Disco.

          Even though Eos Music Supervisors tend to be Millenials, we pride ourselves on mastering music, and curating business music channels, spanning many generations. Putting together this weekly blog is a fun way to get a snapshot of what was hot going back four decades. It’s sometimes surprising to see commonalities in the songs.

          New Release News: Muse - “Thought Contagion”

          Muse is finally back with a new sound. During an interview with KROQ DJ Stryker in 2017, lead singer Matt Bellamy revealed that Muse was mixing a new track, similar to Fury. Thought Contagion was released today as a single. It’s inspired by American news stations and living in the Trump era in general. The band thinks that lots of airtime is given to crazy ideas, while at the same time those ideas are like a virus that is spreading contagiously.

          For the song, the band used the skittish drum patterns of Trap. They have always followed emerging styles and embraced them, and the influence of contemporary music has always been a theme in their songs. Bellamy told nme.com “We’re getting into blending genres and eras together, both in the styles and in the music”.

          Muse is still working on their eighth album. In an interview with Rolling Stone Bellamy said that they are mixing things up, and releasing singles before the album is ready. In that way there is a quick turnaround. He is saying that the album will be a mixed bag, because the songs are quite different. This way fans are able to be a part of their creative process. Even though there is a long wait for the album, hearing some of the songs, and reacting to them, will help Muse in perfecting the final product.

          Besides dropping singles, the band is sharing photos from their time at the studio.

          Eos is now playingThought Contagion on Alt Buzz and BSP Hot.

          Upbeat music makes employees more cooperative, according to researchers

          Employees’ productivity and efficiency in the office is an important issue for managers. They are constantly working on strategies that would enable their employees to be high-performing. However, a simple way of achieving it has been hiding in plain sight, and it involves playing upbeat office music.

          Upbeat music has positive effects on employees
          Research published in the Journal of Organizational Behavior studied music as an environmental aspect of professional workplaces and the influence it has on the employees. The conclusion of this research was that upbeat, happy music has positive effects on the cooperation and productivity among the employees.

          Similar research, published by the Harvard Business Review, concludes that “happy music produces positive effects” on employees working in teams. Teams that were listening to upbeat music before performing a task proved to be more likely to cooperate, less self-interested and invested in the greater good of the group.

          These conclusions were made based on the results of an experiment with two groups. The first group listened to a loop of songs with warmth and happy rhythms. The samples included:
          · “Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and The Waves;
          · “Happy Days” by Pratt and McClain;
          · “Yellow Submarine” by The Beatles;
          · “Brown-Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison.

          The second group listened to music that was distinctly different to the former. The loop consisted of “unhappy” music with arrhythmic song structures and screamed lyrics. The samples included:
          · “Smokahontas,” by Attack Attack!;
          · “You Ain’t No Family,” by iwrestledabearonce.

          In the following stage of the experiment, the groups were given tokens. They could keep all the tokens, or deposit some to a team fund, and if they deposited the tokens to the team fund, their contributions would be multiplied by one and a half. The choice put emphasis on the importance of public good and cooperation. Unsurprisingly, the participants of the first group were more likely to share the tokens with their group.

          Furthermore, the researchers tested one more group, which did not listen to music at all. This group, and the one that listened to “unhappy” music, proved to be less likely to share their tokens. The “happy” music induced cooperation and consequently efficiency within the team, and in the work space.

          Are you ready to enhance the productivity of your employees with music?
          Overhead music does not have an effect only on a business’ customers, it can affect the employees as well. In fact, upbeat overhead music in the workspace can help you enhance the efficiency straight at the core of your business. Researcher Kevin Kniffin agrees, as written in the Harvard Business Review, “managers should be more attentive to the effects that sound may have on their employees, not just their customers.”

          Eos was created with a single mission: to create the perfect music service for business environments. Its music curators employ multiple scientific disciplines, including demography and psychology, combined with decades of experience in the industry and a deep love of music, to craft channels perfectly suited for a wide variety of business environments. If you think your business might be enhanced by having the right music and sound system, we’d love to speak with you.
